A Ruzzle alternative where the grid never runs dry
Ruzzle set a format: a 4 × 4 letter grid, two minutes, three rounds against an opponent. Its flaw is one every Ruzzle player knows: after the first minute the easy words are gone, and you spend the rest of the round staring at letters that no longer make anything.
Lettrio starts from that problem. In Lettrio, every accepted word drops new letters in place of the ones it used: the grid refills constantly. And every word gives seconds back to the clock. You never run out of letters; you only run out of time.

What Lettrio changes compared with Ruzzle
A Lettrio round starts with 60 seconds. A 5-letter word adds 2 seconds, an 8-letter word adds 5 (the rule: word length minus 3). Three-letter words score points but give no time, so you cannot survive on short words; you have to aim long.
Scoring doubles with every letter: a 4-letter word is worth 160 points, 5 letters 320, 6 letters 640, 8 letters 2,560. In Ruzzle a long word is worth a bit more than a short one; in Lettrio a single 8-letter word is worth sixteen 4-letter words.
Played letters disappear and new ones fall from the top of the grid. There is no such thing as an exhausted board: a round ends because the clock is empty, never because nothing is left to find.
What Ruzzle does that Lettrio does not (yet)
Ruzzle is first of all an asynchronous duel: you play your round, your opponent plays theirs, over three rounds. Lettrio has duels with friends through an invite link (same grid, 3 tries each, 24 hours to play), but no matchmaking with strangers. If what you love in Ruzzle is ranking against random players, Lettrio is not that game yet.
Ruzzle has existed since 2012 and has millions of players. Lettrio was released on the App Store on 16 June 2026, built by one person in France. Its weekly leaderboard per language is still small, which makes it that much easier to get on.
Try it without installing anything
Lettrio’s daily challenge runs in the browser, free and with no account: the same grid for everyone, 3 tries of 60 seconds, a new challenge every day at 2 am. It is the fastest way to feel the difference from a fixed grid.
